Castello di Vicchiomaggio Wedding Photographer
Castello di Vicchiomaggio is one of my favourite wedding venues in Tuscany. A medieval castle in the heart of Chianti, surrounded by vineyards and immersed in a silence that feels completely removed from the rest of the world. I photographed a wedding here and the atmosphere was unlike anything else I have experienced at a Tuscan venue: deeply intimate, genuinely private and with a quality of light and landscape that made every frame feel effortless.
Castello di Vicchiomaggio: The Venue
Castello di Vicchiomaggio sits in the Chianti Classico area between Florence and Siena, surrounded by some of the most beautiful vineyard landscape in the region. The castle has been producing wine for centuries and the estate retains a character that feels authentically rooted in this part of Tuscany. It is not a conventional luxury venue. It is a real place with real history, and that quality comes through in every photograph taken here.
The combination of medieval architecture, manicured gardens, historic interiors and the open vineyard landscape creates a variety of photographic contexts that few venues in Tuscany can match.
What Makes Vicchiomaggio Special for Wedding Photography
The defining quality of Castello di Vicchiomaggio from a photographic point of view is the silence and the intimacy. Unlike larger and more commercial venues, Vicchiomaggio feels completely private. The surrounding vineyards create a natural boundary that isolates the estate from the outside world, and the atmosphere on a wedding day here is one of complete immersion in the Tuscan landscape.
The light in the Chianti hills has a particular quality in every season. In spring the vines are bright green and the sky is luminous. In summer the light is warm and golden at the edges of the day. In autumn the harvest colours transform the landscape into something extraordinary. In every season the castle and its surroundings respond to the light in a way that produces images with genuine depth and atmosphere.
The Vineyard Landscape
The vineyard setting at Vicchiomaggio is one of the most photogenic elements of the estate. The rows of vines, the open Chianti landscape and the views across the hills create compositions that feel completely authentic to this part of Tuscany. For portrait sessions, the vineyard offers a natural and beautiful backdrop that changes with the seasons and the light.
In the Chianti Classico area the landscape has a particular character: rolling hills, scattered farmhouses, cypress trees and the kind of countryside that has defined the visual identity of Tuscany for centuries. Working at Vicchiomaggio means working within that landscape rather than simply in front of it.
My Approach at Castello di Vicchiomaggio
I work in a natural and unobtrusive way, focused on documenting the day as it actually feels. At Vicchiomaggio the intimate atmosphere and the silence of the estate make this approach particularly natural. There are no crowds, no noise and no sense of being in a venue. The day unfolds at its own pace and the photographs reflect that.
The best images from Vicchiomaggio, as from any genuinely special place, come when the couple forgets the camera is there and simply lives the day. The estate makes that easier than almost anywhere else I work in Tuscany.
