Vignamaggio Wedding Photographer

Vignamaggio is one of the most beautiful and historically significant estates in Tuscany. A Renaissance villa surrounded by vineyards and gardens in the heart of Chianti, it combines extraordinary architecture with a landscape that feels genuinely timeless. I photographed a wedding here in early September and it remains one of my favourite days of the year: two days of celebration, starting with a pizza party the evening before and continuing through one of the most joyful and authentic weddings I have documented in Tuscany.

Vignamaggio Wedding Photographer: The Venue

Vignamaggio sits in the Chianti Classico area between Florence and Siena, surrounded by some of the most iconic Tuscan landscape in the region. The estate produces its own wine and olive oil, and the combination of historic villa, formal gardens and working vineyard creates a setting that feels deeply rooted in the place and its history.

From a photographic point of view, Vignamaggio offers extraordinary variety. The Renaissance facade of the villa, the formal garden with its geometric hedges and stone fountains, the open vineyard landscape and the intimate interior spaces all provide completely different visual contexts within the same estate.

A September Wedding at Vignamaggio

The wedding I photographed here took place in early September, which is one of my favourite times of year in Chianti. The vineyards are beginning to show the first signs of harvest, the light has the warmth of late summer without the harshness of July and August, and the landscape has a richness and depth that spring cannot match.

The celebration began the evening before with a pizza party in the grounds of the estate, an informal and joyful gathering that set the tone for the entire wedding. That kind of relaxed, authentic atmosphere is exactly what produces the best photographs: people who are genuinely happy, comfortable and present in the experience.

The wedding day itself continued in the same spirit. The couple were warm, spontaneous and completely at ease, and the estate responded to that energy beautifully.

The Gardens and the Vineyard Landscape

The formal gardens at Vignamaggio are one of the most photogenic elements of the estate. The geometric layout, the stone paths and the views across the vineyard create a setting that works beautifully at any time of day. In September, the combination of warm light and the beginning of harvest colour in the vines produces images with a depth and richness that is genuinely extraordinary.

The vineyard itself is a remarkable backdrop for portraits. The rows of vines, the open sky and the rolling Chianti hills in the distance create compositions that feel completely authentic to this part of Tuscany.

My Approach at Vignamaggio

I work in a natural and unobtrusive way, focused on documenting the day as it actually feels rather than directing it. At Vignamaggio, the variety of spaces and the quality of the light throughout the day make it relatively easy to build a photographic narrative that moves through the estate naturally, from the preparations and the ceremony to the portraits in the gardens and the reception as the evening settles in.

The best images from Vignamaggio, as from any great venue, come when the couple forgets the camera is there and simply lives the day. That is always my goal.
