Borgo Santo Pietro Wedding: An Autumn Celebration in Tuscany

Borgo Santo Pietro is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. A luxury estate in the hills of the Sienese countryside, completely private, surrounded by gardens and nature, with a level of care and refinement that is genuinely rare. I photographed a wedding here in October and it remains one of the most beautiful days I have spent working in Tuscany. The light, the couple, the setting and the dinner that followed combined to create a day that was close to perfect.

Borgo Santo Pietro Wedding: The Estate

Borgo Santo Pietro is not a conventional wedding venue. It is a private estate that has been transformed into one of the most exclusive luxury retreats in Tuscany, with gardens, spa facilities, a working farm and a restaurant that holds a Michelin star. The approach to hospitality here is unlike anything else in the region: deeply personal, completely unhurried and focused entirely on the experience of the guests.

For a wedding, this translates into a day that feels genuinely private and immersive. There are no other events, no shared spaces with strangers, no sense of being in a venue. You are simply in a beautiful place, surrounded by the people you love, with every detail attended to at the highest level.

An October Wedding at Borgo Santo Pietro

The wedding I photographed here took place in October, which is my favourite season for Borgo Santo Pietro. The gardens were at their most beautiful, with warm colours beginning to appear in the foliage and the air carrying the particular quality that comes with the Tuscan autumn. The light in October at this estate is extraordinary: warm, golden and with a depth that spring and summer simply cannot match.

The atmosphere that day was one of complete calm and warmth. The couple were relaxed, joyful and completely present in the experience. The setting responded to that energy in the way that only truly special places can: the gardens seemed warmer, the light seemed richer and every corner of the estate offered something genuinely beautiful to photograph.

The Gardens and the Natural Setting

The gardens at Borgo Santo Pietro are one of the most important photographic assets of the estate. Carefully designed and immaculately maintained, they offer a variety of spaces that work at different times of day and in different light conditions. There are formal garden areas with structured hedges and stone paths, wilder areas where the estate meets the surrounding countryside, and intimate corners that feel completely removed from everything.

In October, the combination of warm light and the beginning of autumn colour in the trees and hedgerows creates a palette that is genuinely extraordinary. The gardens hold the late afternoon light in a way that produces images with real depth and warmth.

Dinner on the Covered Terrace

One of the most memorable moments of the day was the dinner. Borgo Santo Pietro's restaurant, Meo Modo, holds a Michelin star and is considered one of the finest dining experiences in Tuscany. The wedding dinner took place on the covered terrace, an extraordinary space that combines the intimacy of an interior with the atmosphere of the garden at dusk.

The combination of candlelight, the warm tones of the stone and timber, the floral arrangements and the quality of the light as the evening settled in created a setting that was both intimate and genuinely spectacular. Photographically, the covered terrace at golden hour and into the evening is one of the most beautiful spaces I have worked in anywhere in Tuscany.

Borgo Santo Pietro Wedding Photography

Borgo Santo Pietro rewards photographers who work naturally and without interruption. The estate has its own rhythm and its own atmosphere, and the best images come from working with that rather than imposing a programme on it. I moved through the day following the light and the couple, building the portrait session around the golden hour in the gardens and allowing the evening to unfold at its own pace.

The variety of spaces at Borgo Santo Pietro means that no two weddings here look the same. The light changes dramatically through the day, the gardens offer different compositions in every season and the interior and exterior spaces of the estate combine in ways that are always surprising.
