Villa Regina Teodolinda is one of the most extraordinary wedding venues in Italy. Situated directly on the western shore of Lake Como in the village of Laglio, this historic villa combines lakeside access, private gardens, six elegant suites and views over the lake and mountains that are genuinely breathtaking. I photographed a wedding here in June and it remains one of the most beautiful and intimate days I have documented anywhere in Italy. The combination of the location, the light on the water and the complete privacy of the estate created an atmosphere that was unlike anything else.
Villa Regina Teodolinda: The Venue
Villa Regina Teodolinda sits directly on Lake Como in one of the most exclusive and sought-after positions on the western shore. The villa is available for exclusive private hire, accommodating weddings of up to 60 guests with six suites sleeping up to 25 people. The estate includes a lakeside garden for ceremonies, a covered courtyard, a swimming pool overlooking the lake and a large terrace for evening dining under the stars.
The villa's private boat dock is one of its most distinctive features, allowing arrival and departure by water and creating opportunities for photography that are impossible at any other venue. The combination of lake access, historic architecture and extraordinary views makes Villa Regina Teodolinda one of the most photogenic wedding venues in Italy.
An Intimate June Wedding at Villa Regina Teodolinda
The wedding I photographed here took place on a perfect day in early June. The entire celebration unfolded within the villa: preparations in the suites, a ceremony in the lakeside garden with the water directly behind the couple and the mountains of the opposite shore in the distance, a boat ride on the lake and dinner on the terrace as the evening light settled over the water.
The choice to keep the celebration entirely within the villa shaped everything about the day. The atmosphere was completely unhurried and genuinely intimate. The light on the lake in June, with the long days and the warm tones of the afternoon, produced images with a quality that only this location can offer.
The Lakeside Garden Ceremony
The ceremony space at Villa Regina Teodolinda, set in the lakeside garden with the lake directly behind the couple, is one of the most beautiful ceremony locations I have encountered in Italy. The combination of the water, the mountains on the opposite shore, the villa architecture and the garden setting creates a backdrop that feels simultaneously grand and intimate.
In June the garden is at its most beautiful, with warm light and the lake reflecting the colours of the sky. The ceremony photographs from this space have a quality and a clarity that is genuinely exceptional.
The Boat Ride and the Terrace Dinner
One of the most memorable elements of a Villa Regina Teodolinda wedding is the private boat dock. Arriving or departing by water, or taking a boat ride on the lake as part of the wedding day, creates photographs that could only exist at this location. The perspective of the villa from the water, with the lake in the foreground and the mountains behind, is completely different from anything available on land.
The terrace dinner at Villa Regina Teodolinda, as the sun goes down over the water and the evening light settles over the lake, is one of the most beautiful reception settings I have photographed anywhere in Italy. The combination of the lake, the light and the intimacy of the gathering creates an atmosphere that is genuinely unforgettable.

At Villa Regina Teodolinda the intimate scale of the venue and the extraordinary setting make this approach particularly natural. The best images here come from working with the light on the water, the reflections, the changing quality of the lake at different times of day and the genuine emotion of a couple celebrating in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
